Our People
Champagne Lanson
The House of Lanson is proud of its close 'family' of workers, many of whom have worked in the vineyards, cellars, and press houses of Lanson their entire working lives. At Lanson we value of our heritage and so too does our team.
Jean Paul Gandon
Chef de Cave
Jean Paul Gandon hails from a family with a long-standing wine-growing tradition. Originally from Tours, Jean Paul studied viticulture-oenology in Burgundy. Immediately after his studies, he spent time working in the vineyards and cellars of North Africa. When he returned to France, Jean Paul chose to devote himself to Champagne and in 1972 joined Lanson to manage the vineyards before being appointed Cellar Master (Chef de Cave) in 1986.
Jean Paul is passionate and dedicated. Whilst making use of up to date knowledge and techniques, he maintains the Lanson non-malolactic style year after year, cleverly blending wines together to recreate its unique taste.
Philippe Baijot
President of Lanson
Philippe Baijot, co-founder of LANSON-BCC, is native to the Champagne region. In 1978, he met Gaston Burtin, the founder of Marne et Champagne, with whom he worked until 1990. He then teamed up with his friend, Bruno Paillard, to create a new venture, PBI, and bring the brand Chanoine Frères back to life. In 1994, following a meeting between Bruno, Philippe and Boizel’s leaders, the Boizel Chanoine Champagne (BCC) entity was born.
It was not until March 2006 that Philippe and BCC purchased the House of Lanson, one of the oldest Houses in Champagne. Philippe reinvigorated the brand with his energy and passion for champagne, and in 2010 Lanson celebrated its 250th anniversary.
